I am Lizzie Ullman and I am in eighth Grade at St.Bruno Parish School! My project is about saving the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes are especially special to me because they are right in our back yard! Many actions need to take place to bring back our Great Lakes to being clean! So I think if we all come together, we can make a big difference.
The Great Lakes are extremely important to a lot of people! 40 million people rely on the lakes water for drinking, thousands of species of plants and animals are living in the lakes, and the lakes are about 20% of our worlds fresh water. Therefore, the lakes need to be clean and well taken care of. I hope that if everyone does their part by, recycling, not littering, and reusing!
People are not aware of how big of an issue the downfall of the Great Lakes could be. The top reasons for the downfall are invasive species and pollution!
Around 1.3 million jobs rely on the Great Lakes. If the "state" of the Great Lakes get worse it could cause a downfall in our economy.
Do you know what an invasive species is? Well, if you don't know, an invasive specie is a plant, animal, or an organism. Whatever it may be, they go from one body of water to another and "invade" the new place. This can happen from not cleaning off a boat or accidental release. You can have a positive impact on this problem by cleaning off your boat, and anything that is moving from one body of water to another.
