Good afternoon. Please be advised that our transition to Moodle has started. Today for homework, I want you all to log in to our Moodle page and make a preliminary post under the March 17th check in section. Tomorrow sections will begin opening up in the different curriculum areas.

A memo has gone home today for next year's school registration.

Reminder that if you are pre-ordering for Monday's Salad bar - these have to be returned by tomorrow! The salad bar will take place on Monday, March 9th.

English Language Arts - Today we worked on our Comic Strip activity. Students are taking a children's story or fable and turning it into a comic strip or children's story book to show the meaning or moral theme of the story in a more direct way. Students are reminded to continue work on their book report at home. Due date: March 23rd.

Math - Today we have been working with fractions, percents & decimals on a number line.

French - Highlight Vocabulary

Music - For students who have been absent - please remember to bring your music project to Mrs. Gatherall when you return to school.

Tuesday, March 3rd -

This morning our class took some time to review proper hand-washing techniques that are very important this time of year with the cold & flu germs being so active. Students were reminded to wash hands thoroughly with warm water and soap before eating, and whenever they use the washroom or blow their nose or sneeze to prevent the spread of germs. This is a message that will be reiterated on a continual basis. Thank you for your support at home with this initiative.

Students received a salad bar pre-order form for lunch on Monday, March 9th for fresh produce from Lester's Farm and bread from Georgestown Bakery. If your child would like to order from our school's salad bar - please return this no later than Thursday, March 5th.

Math - Students should complete the worksheets sent home on Fractions, Percent & Decimals. These are a recap of our current unit. They will be corrected in tomorrow's class.

English Language Arts - Students should be working on their book reports. These will be due on March 23rd. If you need a second copy of the rubric or outline, students can get a physical copy from me or find it online here.

Science - Students are reminded that they must have their Tides / Phases of the Moon worksheets for tomorrow - Mrs. Bruce will be coming to our class to collect them tomorrow morning.

Despite the stormy weather - we had a great afternoon of learning, physical activity and being kind and positive for this pink shirt day!

Tomorrow is pink shirt day. Students are encouraged to wear pink to show their support.

During the events of today, the grade six students demonstrated their maturity and led others by example in being calm and respectful while we were in the Aula. They did great job setting a good example!

Wednesday, February 26th -

Tomorrow students are reminded to make sure they have outdoor gear (snow boots, snow pants, mitts / gloves) for outdoor play. We have to wear these when going outdoors, and we will go out during our extra period in the Aula.

Our Ash Wednesday service was fantastic. Our grade sixes did an excellent job leading us in prayer. Many thanks to all of them!

Today the grade 6 religion classes participated in a teaching Mass with Fr. Earl Smith. This was an excellent opportunity for all to learn a little more in-depth about the Mass.

Social Studies - Heritage Fair is tomorrow. Judging is between 9 - 11:30. All are welcomed to come visit at 11:30.

Wednesday, February 5th -

Our next skating trip is scheduled for Friday afternoon. Tomorrow we have a period in the Aula. Students should wear their gym clothes tomorrow.

Math - Today we worked on representing our surveys in a graph. Students have an in-class assignment for this unit that we will be working on for the next couple of classes.

Social Studies - Don't forget to bring your Heritage Fair projects. The Heritage Fair is on Friday morning from 9 - 12. All are welcomed to come visit between 11:30 - 12.

English Language Arts - Today we began to describe and create a mock-up obstacle course for a coding activity.

Tuesday, February 4th -

Our next Figure Skating will take place on Friday, February 7th in the afternoon. Students will have to change out of their uniforms for this - as we have our Heritage Fair during the morning.

We have taken advantage of the opportunity to use the Aula to make up for lost outdoor play. Today we played Capture the Flag.

Math - Today we surveyed several classes to collect data for our survey. Students will be given an assignment to represent their information in a graph next class.

Math - We are going to start our mid-unit review. We will have an in-class assignment in Math next Thursday, November 14th to check our factoring skills. Please complete Page 84 questions 2a, 3a, 6 & 7 at home if you did not finish in class today - We will correct these next class. Social Studies - Finish 8.2 and 8.3 in your workbook.

Art - Continue working on your Perspective Art Piece.

Tuesday, November 5th -

English Language Arts - Students are asked to take home their Island of the Blue Dolphins map to complete at home and return by Friday, November 8th.

Our DARE essays are due on Thursday, November 14th - we have started these in class. When we are finished, students are encouraged to take home their written copies and rewrite them neatly or type and print them for the 14th.

Math - For students who were out for band during this period - please take home your factor tree worksheet to complete at home.

Social Studies - Finish 8.2 & 8.3

Heritage Fair Projects - The updated Heritage Fair date is set for January 24th. Students can start to think of their project ideas over the coming weeks. The theme is: Our Environent - From Past to Present. Visit HERE

English Language Arts - Today we have completed up to chapter 15 in our Read Aloud novel study. We will get another class

Math - Prime & Composite numbers - If you haven't finished Page 80 #2 a-f in your text please finish for Monday.

On Monday Mr. McLeod will be visiting our class again and has asked us to think about these questions:

  • 1. Where did your family immigrate from?
  • 2. Why did they immigrate to Canada?
  • 3. How long have they been in Newfoundland?

We are also having an extra DARE class on Monday afternoon.

English Language Arts - On Monday we will be having our guest Mr. McLeod to do a drama workshop with our class and finish our last three presentations.

Tomorrow we have a Jeans Day Fundraiser. $2.00 for tutoring for tuition.

Science test tomorrow on classification of animals.

Math - Skip counting numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 & 12 up to 100. These were assigned today - students are asked to complete these if they have not already.

English Language Arts - We will be continuing our presentations tomorrow and Monday due to shortened period today for Gymnastics.

English Language Arts - Book Report presentations tomorrow for students who are scheduled tomorrow. We are continuing our read-aloud in class afterwards.

Our Math test is next Tuesday, October 15th. A study checklist was given today. We will be reviewing throughout the week.

Next week we are going to the Fluvarium. The Grade 6 classes are looking for parent volunteers to come with.

Our first day of Gymnastics for the year was excellent!

Wednesday, October 2nd -

Today we had our Third DARE class with Cst. Milks. This was an excellent experience for all.

In English Language Arts we have discussed our new vocabulary and are continuing reading, discussing and working on comprehension of the novel.

Math Multiplication Drill on Friday - Lets see if we can beat our last week's time and score!

Religion : Continuing our reading about St. Jerome - we began using our brand new set of New Testaments from The Gideon's. We took this opportunity to learn how to find specific passages and better understand using the Bible. Then we interpreted the story of Feeding 5000 with just five loaves of bread.

Today in Math we have started studying decimal numbers up to the Millionths. There is no homework tonight.

English Language Arts - We have started our read-aloud in class. Students were given a vocabulary list for the first two chapters. For students who did not finish - please complete these at home.
