Dear Parents/Carers,
This week the children have been completing assessments and have coped really well in order to show off all that they know. We will be meeting as a staff during the INSET day this Friday to discuss the children and review their assessments to identify next steps to support and challenge the children.
This half term at school we are focusing on the Catholic Social Teaching principle, preferential option for the poor. The focus helps us to prioritise the needs of the poor and vulnerable, advocating for change and support. We want to put the needs of the most marginalised first. Towards the end of this half term every class will embark on a special project whereby they will work together using their learning across the whole curriculum to come together to support the poor. We look forward to sharing these projects with you.
As we are approaching performance season in school, we would like to take this opportunity to remind all parents of our policy regarding taking photos at assemblies/performances. It is important to note that there may be some children who are at risk and must not have their image put online and other parents who have made the decision to not to put their children online. For these reasons, parents/carers must follow the school's 'Acceptable use agreement' and refrain from taking or posting online photographs of any member of the school community, other than their own children. Please see our policy - online safety policy (https://www.stbernadette.herts.sch.uk/Policies/).
Last year, the FABs team worked tirelessly to raise a grand total of £5665.95 for the school. So far this year, this money has gone towards new phonics reading books in key stage 1, new classroom rugs for reception and year 1 classes and supported towards coach costs to enable school trips. Thank you for your continued support and please join in with the christmas fundraising festivities where possible!
Enjoy the long weekend with your families and we look forward to welcoming you back next week!

Hertfordshire County Council want your feedback on their proposed SEND Strategy for Hertfordshire 2026 - 2029.
They want to find out:
Do the ambitions reflect what matters most to children and young people with SEND and their families?
Are there any parts which are missing, unclear or need strengthening?
What do you think is the single most important priority for us to focus on?
The consultation opened today (Friday 14 November) and closes Friday 6 February 2026.
You can find the proposed strategy (along with an easy read version) and the link to the consultation survey on the SEND strategy webpage.

St Bernadette vs St Peters
Last week, the St Bernadette Football team earned a hard-fought 2–1 win against St Peter’s School in what proved to be an exciting and competitive fixture.
We got off to a strong start and it wasn’t long before Jack (Y5) put in the first goal to put us ahead. Soon after, Leighton added another, sliding the ball past their keeper to make it 2–0 and give us some breathing room.
St Peter’s didn’t give up though and they managed to score in the second half after a bit of a scramble in the box. That made things a bit tense, but we held on, defended well and made sure we kept our lead until the final whistle.
A special shout out to Leighton, our player of the match.
Overall, a great team effort, some brilliant goals, and a solid win! What an excellent start to the football season.
We look forward to our match next Tuesday (25th November) at home. We’d love to see as many parents and pupils as possible supporting the team—your encouragement really makes a difference!
St Bernadette vs Oakwood School:
The St Bernadette Tigers played their second fixture of the term against Oakwood school, hitting hard from the start with five goals in the first quarter. Sienna Captained the match and scored five of the team's goals overall, with Freddie scoring four. Oakwood fought back though, and the ball went up and down the court like a tennis match. Our defence worked together to prevent too many Oakwood goals and the game ended in a 9-2 win for St Bernadette.
Freddie was awarded a well deserved MVP by the Oakwood team. Coach's special mention goes to Carolina for her strongest performance yet and a great display of skills. A big well done to the Tigers, Sienna, Freddie, Natalia, Francesca (Year 5), Carolina, Olivia, Ryan, Holly and Luca (Year 5).
St Bernadette vs St John Fisher:
The St Bernadette Tigers played a strong game against St John Fisher with a 4-0 lead at half time. We scored two more in the final quarter of the game when suddenly St John Fisher caught their stride and came back at us with three goals in three minutes. We all felt relieved when the final whistle blew after a tough final quarter, with the Tigers victorious with a 6-3 win. Sienna and Freddie scored three goals each, with Freddie being awarded MVP for the second time in a week.
Special coach’s mention goes to Olivia who has really found her confidence over the last few matches. Well done to Freddie, Sienna, Francesca (Year 5), Tiago, Florence, Carolina, Olivia, Holly and Leo. Hear those Tigers roar!
St Mary, Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Church, London Colney are looking to start a “Companion’s Café”, in their church hall, for a couple of hours, on a Saturday lunch time, once a month. The purpose of this café is to provide a warm, welcoming space, a chance for social interaction and hot food and drinks for the poor, hungry, lonely and marginalised members of our community.
We are still at the planning stage but if you are interested in being involved in this endeavour, and can spare a few hours once a month, please contact Anna Campanella at the Parish Office, either by telephone 01923 635541 or email radlett@rcdow.org.uk
