I will post our classroom news on this page weekly. Be sure to check the school's online communication envelope http://www.stbartseb.com/school/weekly-communications.html for information on everything going on at St. Bartholomew School.

What's Happening in the Classroom

What a great first full week of school! Many of the children are still adjusting to the early mornings and full days worth of activities - do not be surprised if they are more tired at home!

This week we will learn the numbers 3, 4, and 5 in Math. We are working on representing these numbers by making a model with counters, writing the numbers and learning the number words. I will be sending home GoMath online usernames and passwords this week along with instructions for how to log in at home.

In ELA, the children are learning letters Ff-Jj. At home, you can practice matching these letters - the uppercase to the lowercase. We will read many stories about school, family, and friends as we continue to get to know one another. We will begin to learn sight words as well, with the word "I." The children will use the sight word "I" to make a sentence about themselves (ex. - I am Mrs. Egan.) We will begin to learn the basics of writing - using words and pictures.

I will be sending home some writing information this week as well as a name writing homework packet. This packet does not have to be completed in one night. I would like the children to take their time and practice over several evenings as they are working on proper letter formation when writing their names. We will be working on this in the classroom, too.

In Religion, the children will be learning that their names are important. We will also learn about what makes good friends and how good friends help us to grow closer to God.

~ This week there is Back to School Night for grades 1-8 on Wednesday the 19th. Kindergarten parents are not required to attend. If you are interested in getting involved with our HSA, you may wish to attend their presentation that evening.

~ Magazine Drive/Cookie/Pretzel fundraiser information went home last week. Your support is very much appreciated! Orders are due on October 1st.

~ I will be sending Scholastic Book Order forms this Monday. If you would like to order, you may do so via the scholastic website (https://clubs.scholastic.com - MKFWF) or the paper flyers (I cannot accept cash - credit cards may be used online or you can send a check to Scholastic Book Club). Please turn in by Thursday.

Please check here and our school's communication envelope weekly to see what's going on at school.
