Mrs. Monet Burns-Wilmott's

 First Grade Class

September 5, 2018

Welcome to First Grade! It was so nice to meeting your student today! I would like to give you some information to start the year off right.

Students should be in the caferteria no later than 7:30 am. Lateness impacts the flow of the classroom and interrupts learning.

Please pack a nutritious nut-free snack daily.

Your student will come home with a green folder which is used for daily communication between home and school. Please check daily and take out any papers. If you are sending a note to school, place it in the folder and your child will take it out in the morning and place it in the Notes basket.

If your student is buying lunch, please send in a note with their lunch choice and money (if they don't have a lunch ticket) in a labeled bag or envelope. This should also be in the green folder. Your student will place that in the Lunch basket in the classroom. At lunchtime, all notes are given back to students and they will present them to the cafeteria staff.

Books will be sent home one or two at a time for you to cover in clear contact. Please cover immediately and always return all books to school the next day.

To increase reading skills, please read daily with your child or let them read independently. Each month a Reading Log will be sent home for your child to color in each day they read. The completed Reading Log is due on the first school day of the following month. September's Reading Log is due on October 1. Parents and students should sign the log before returning it to school.

Announcements and homework are posted on the teacher website. Students will have homework Monday through Thursday. The Specials schedule is also on the website. Spelling and Sight words will also be posted. Please practice these words with your student. We have spelling tests weekly and students should be able to read the sight words fluently.

Your student will have an 8th Grade Buddy this year! They will attend Mass and have snack together on Fridays. They will also celebrate holidays together throughout the school year.

The St. Bartholomew School Volunteer Procedure is posted on the school website and gives information to all parents/guardians about volunteering in our school.

I am looking forward to seeing you on Back-To-School night on September 19!

Thank you for all you do!
