Summer Reading Letter

June 16, 2017

Dear Parents,

Young children make incredible progress during each school year. This summer, we encourage you to continue to read with your child, not only to prevent the “summer slide,” but also to foster a lifelong love of reading. Research has shown that children learn to read by reading, and the more children read the better readers they become.

Our St. Bartholomew School library is hosting a summer reading challenge and we encourage your child to participate in this program. See Mrs. Phillips’ website for details and bookmarks.

We have assigned two books for your child to read and enjoy during his or her time away from school. The titles are:

  • Frog and Toad Are Friends by Arnold Lobel
  • There is a Bird on Your Head! By Mo Willems

Send your child to school with these books in September, too. We will reread them and complete our projects together.

Enjoy your time together this summer and take advantage of the opportunities that summer provides to relax, explore, and refresh your spirits.

We look forward to learning with each of you in September.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Maligranda

Mrs. McGivney
