¡Hola familias de San Bartolomé!

Hello St. Bartholomew families!

Middle School

Parents of middle schoolers can now see a rounded picture of student's class performance.  In addition to their academic performance, for Spanish, an "Attention & Behavior" Assignment has been added to PowerSchool.  It does not impact student grades; however, it provides a picture of students impact to class instruction and their learning.

¡Hola!

Middle School Families

Friendly reminder:  The End of the Second Marking period is Friday.  Power School is updated.

Students with missing assignments were sent a Google Classroom Private Stream Message with a list of the assignments they still need to turn in.

The last day for turning in missing work for this marking period is this Friday.

Please keep in mind, Power School is kept up to date with late/missing assignments (grading sometimes takes a little longer due to volume).  There were many students that required  reminder to turn in missing work.  Please encourage your child to check PowerSchool regularly and stay current with their work.

Power School is being updated, Your patience and continued support is sincerely appreciated.

For conference request, please email apeterson@stbartseb.com to coordinate a meeting after school.

K- 4th meet 1x per week.

Kinder - 1st

Each week the focus varies - thus far: classroom routines, 2 variations of "Buenos días" song, colors (1 &2), and numbers 1-10.  Grades are in the process of being updated.

2nd

Focus in the first marking period has been on classroom routines (good morning song, prayer, classroom jobs), pronunciation.  Additionally, colors, numbers and greetings.  Folders will be collected at the end of the week and grades will be updated.

3rd

The third grade for Spanish is a transition grade.  In the first marking period students are getting used to new procedures, expectations in the class, pronunciation and taking notes for Spanish class.   The goal this marking period was to have 2 entries in the notebook.*.  With that in mind, the grade will be based on efforts in pronunciation, participation, attentiveness and one set of notes taken this past week.  Grades will be posted later in the week.

*Note:  Some students still need a notebook.  Teacher provided notebooks to many students, and ran out.  Please ask your child if they still need a notebook and send it in for next class.

4th:

As in the other grades, the first few weeks of class center around setting up routines, expectations and behavior.  Additionally, pronunciation and physical motions are the learning focus.  With these things in mind, and meeting 1x time per week with exceptions due to school schedule, holidays, etc. in the first marking period the grades will be based on efforts in pronunciation, participation, attentiveness, classwork and notes taken in notebooks.

5th

The 5th grade for Spanish is a transition grade and meets one time per week.  Students are getting used to new procedures, focus on pronunciation exercises and learning about names and location of the countries around the world that have Spanish as their official language.   For the first marking period Grades will be based on their notes, the map colored in class and their contribution during class (including participation, class jobs, attentiveness).  Binders will be collected this week for grading.

Note: future marking periods, grades will include assignments, classwork, projects, etc.

6th, 7th & 8th

The first few weeks of class focused around class routines, expectations, behavior, etc.  Sixth - eighth grades meet 2x per week, with exceptions resulting from school assemblies, special celebrations, 1/2 days, etc.

With that in mind, grades for Spanish in the 1st marking period: Daily Entry #1 and Map assignments were collected this week (some late last week), are being graded and PowerSchool will be updated.  Daily Entry #2 will be completed in class this week.

Notes:
*8th grade - Due to the Halloween festivities, the 8th graders did not have Spanish yesterday, students were informed assignments were still due on Friday.
*7-201 - Due to the Halloween festivities, 7-201 did not have Spanish yesterday.  Students were informed any late work was to still be turned in Friday.

¡Buen día!

We are in our 4th week, and either 3rd or 4th class for grades K - 5th.

Some updates:

K-4th:  Folders (and notebooks for 3rd and 4th) will be stored in student's classroom).

1st grade parentsPlease send a plastic folder with prongs and pockets for use in Spanish only.

2nd grade parentsStudents are using their folders from last year.  New students, please bring in folder for next week's class (Plastic, two pocket with prongs).

3rd grade parents:  Last year's folders were distributed.  Students that brought in folders for this year had the choice to use either.  The other either went back home, or some students chose to donate it for students that didn't have one.   Folders in pristine condition were not accepted as donation, and were returned to students.

Mrs. Keefe and Miss Januse are sending out communication to parents requesting a new composition notebook for Spanish.   Notebook and folder will be used again in 4th grade.

4th grade parents:  Last year's folders and notebooks will be distributed during the next class.    New students need a Plastic folder with pockets and prongs and a new composition notebook.

5th grade parents:  It was a pleasant surprise to find that all students brought in their Binders for Spanish class.    Last years folders will be returned to students.  They will use them for storing their looseleaf.  Both binder and looseleaf will be stored in their classroom.

6th - 8th:  Binders / folders from last year will be returned next class.
