EYFS 2 Grace Darling Class

Welcome to Grace Darling class

Grace was born on 24th November 1815 at Bamburgh, Northumberland and spent her youth in two lighthouses (Brownsman and Longstone) where her father, William, was the keeper.

In the early hours of the 7th September 1838, Grace, looking out from an upstairs window of the Longstone Lighthouse on the Farne Islands, spotted the wreck and survivors of the Forfarshire on a low rocky outcrop. Amidst tempestuous waves and gale force winds Grace demonstrated great courage and resilience to battle the elements whilst rescuing the survivors of the shipwreck with her father.

To this day Grace is held as an iconic figure head for the RNLI.

Reading

Reading books are provided at your child's level to enable them to read at home with you with confidence.

The more your child practices at home and at school, the better they will become as both a reader and a writer. With this in mind please do endeavor to find just 5 minutes every day to enjoy sharing a book with your child.

In school we read with your child once a week individually and twice a week as part of a Guided Reading group.

Please make sure your child comes to school with their book bag and books everyday.

If you would like some more information about supporting your child with their reading please don't hesitate to speak to a member of the EYFS team or alternatively please find below a useful link which demonstrates each of the letter sounds your child is learning at school.

The great Grace Darling class robbery!

Somebody call the police, our rainbow pens have...been...STOLEN!

We came into school this morning to a crime scene, there were footprints all over the classroom floor, chairs knocked over and paper, pens and pencils in a muddle everywhere.

We had to use our deductive powers to work out exactly what was missing from our shelves.

We had to use our deductive powers to work out what was missing.

" I followed the footprints to the door."

Kaden

"They stop at the snack table."

Declan

"Check people's feet, if they have the footprint. If the shoes matches, then its them that have the rainbow pens."

Joseph

"Somebody knocked the chairs down and there's red string. The baddy knocked them over."

Lorelai

Winter Warmers

Please send your child in with suitable outdoor clothing to ensure they stay warm while learning outside. We have water proof trousers, coats and wellingtons for when the children are accessing the outdoor learning environment, but it is always a good idea to send in an extra pair of tights or socks for when it gets a little cooler.

PE

PE will be in the hall on a Tuesday; please make sure your child has a suitable, named PE kit in school on these days.
