Braddock School Sports Premium

PE at Braddock 2016/17

Here at Braddock Primary School we believe PE & Sport has the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.

We have welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding to improve provision of physical education and sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource to develop high quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our children.

A wide range of PE is delivered to our pupils, which aims to engage and inspire the children. This is taught by external providers and by our teaching staff.

Extra curricular Sport

Our extra-curricular programme is extensive and includes many after school clubs. The majority of our after school clubs are run by our committed teaching staff and dedicated parents, and are free of charge. We offer a range of clubs including: football, netball, hockey, tag rugby, cross country, rounder’s, yoga, dance, athletics, cheerleading, aerobics and orienteering. We also provide after school sports clubs to our KS1 pupils, to develop a love of sport, including multi skills and athletics.

How We Invested

During the last academic year, 2015/16, we successfully used the new primary school sport funding to enhance sporting provision throughout the school, by organising sports coaches to come in each week. We have also used the sports premium to ensure we well resourced in terms of equipment. Additionally, the sports premium enabled our school to participate in many intra-school and inter-school competitions, including many local sporting tournaments and festivals, for example, multi-skills sports festivals, as well as a swimming gala.

We have several children who are competing in triathlons, as well as children who entered new competitions, including a local gymkhana coming first and second.

Lastly, we have introduced new experiences to enrich the children’s learning experiences, including a Forest School, den building sessions and Tai Chi across the school.

We have also considered the following:

  • The children to gain a deeper understanding of healthier and active lunchtimes and the importance of eating well – lunchtime clubs and C4L clubs (this is on going and is in our current PE DEVELOPMENT PLAN).
  • Providing the opportunities for skilled professionals from different sports to run taster sessions to encourage participation in a variety of sports – Tai Chi, dance specialist, archery, Tri Golf, specialist sports coaches and Plymouth Raiders.
  • Lunchtime resources bought for the children continue their learning from their PE lessons throughout their lunch time play.
  • Staff development in dance and theme dance workshops ie 'mini beasts' and 'dinosaurs'.
  • Subsidised swimming sessions across the school.
  • Sports Coach to support curricular and extra-curricular activity- including a cricket club.

We will measure the impact of our sports funding through pupil voice (Sports Council) and the whole school audit, including the Sainsbury’s Sports Award.

WE HAVE ACHIEVED A GOLD AWARD AND BEEN NOMINATED FOR THE BEST SCHOOL IN CORNWALL FOR P.E. – WOW!

Sports Council

The idea of the Sports Council is to give the children in our school a voice in sporting issues and needs.

Sports Council 2015/16

Braddock School’s very first School Sports Council has been set up to discuss the future of sport in our school. The children pictured were all voted for by their class to represent the school voice in all sporting decisions.

Sports Council Election

The sports council are elected from years 2 to 6. There are two representatives from each class. These councillors will work with Mrs Smith to improve the quality and selection of sports that the school teach or participate in. They will canvas opinions from their classmates and feedback information to help inform decisions and create a sporting ethos.
