We are a mixed year 1 and year 2 class. Our teachers are Miss Haworth and Mrs Bridges and our teaching assistants are Mrs Enever and Mrs Brenton. We are a fantastic, friendly, kind and funny bunch. We LOVE to learn and have lots of fun whilst doing this.

In Elm we like to learn through activities, computers, iPads, dancing, writing and lots more; we think it's brilliant to learn in as many different ways that we can. Here are just some of things we did last academic year:

  • In religious education, we had a Holi festival and made Diwali patterns out of coloured salt to help us learn about Hindu festivals
  • In maths we rolled out big pieces of paper to do our work on, went outside and used chalk, made cakes and so much more to learn about all the different areas in maths
  • In science, there have been lots of experiments and investigation work
  • In geography we walked around East Taphouse to understand our surroundings, and sent our class teddy, Ted, to London and Brasilia (he loved it)

In Elm Class, English and Maths homework is set every Friday and returned to the homework box by the following Wednesday.

Elm 2015-2016

Autumn Term (1-2)

Our Autumn term topic was 'All at Sea'. The children learnt about Grace Darling in History and explored making boats. In English, we read the books; 'Light House Keeper's Lunch' and 'The Singing Mermaid'. We wrote poems, stories, instructions, reports and many more exciting pieces on different things at sea. Elm had a fantastic trip to the Aquarium, where we learnt about Snorkle the turtle, how an Octopus has a doughnut shaped brain and how a starfish eats - please ask us!! All linking to our science learning. Elm loved the 'All at Sea' topic and I am sure they would love to tell you about it.

Spring Term (1-2)

Our Spring term topic was 'Magic and Mystery'. The children had great fun putting magic and mystery into their work. We had mystery quizzes about The Great Fire of London'. We used our Core learning skills to make independent magic mixes, these enabled us to grow and become an even better independent learner. In English we wrote magic and mystery poems, stories, reports and many more. We were extrmeley surprised and had a visitor from the Twinklest Star arrive, Ted! Who gave us a surprise Teddy Bear's Picnic in the field!! Elm children had fantastic fun bringing this topic to their learning.

Summer Term (1)

Our current topic for this half term is 'Seasons'. Please open the Summer Term letter to find out more about our Season learning across the different subjects.
