Antony Primary School seeks to provide a full, varied and interesting Physical Education curriculum which challenges, engages and excites staff and pupils alike. We see Physical Education as a vital part of the education experience as a whole.
"Challenging individuals to achieve their personal best."
At Antony Church of England Primary School, we believe that PE and Sport plays an integral part in supporting our children to challenge themselves. It is the vision of the teaching team that our young children are constantly being driven to achieve their personal best. This valuable life skill has the potential to change young people's lives for the better.
Physical Education at Antony School develops pupil’s physical competence and confidence and their ability to use these to perform in a range of activities including gymnastics, athletics, dance, games and swimming. It promotes skillfulness, physical development and knowledge of the body in action. We provide opportunities for pupils to be creative, competitive and cooperative as well as face up to different challenges as individuals and in groups and teams. It promotes positive attitudes toward healthy and active lifestyles.
Our pupils learn how to think in different ways to suit a wide variety of creative, competitive, cooperative and challenging activities. They learn how to plan, perform and evaluate actions, ideas and performances; to improve their aptitudes, abilities, preferences and make choices about how to get involved in lifelong physical activity.
Following the announcement in June 2013 to improve the provision of PE and Sport in Primary schools; we are committed to using the resource to develop high quality PE lessons, resources and opportunities for every child, across the curriculum and beyond.
'Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and Sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.' (DfE 2013)
