Connecting Coloradans to HealthY LIFESTYLES

Established in 1975 by Governor Richard Lamm, the Colorado Governor’s Council for Active and Healthy Living created the Colorado Foundation for Physical Fitness as its 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization to serve as the funding arm of the Council's efforts to promote physically active lifestyles throughout Colorado.

The Council is a bipartisan physical activity promotion and advocacy group comprised of approximately 18 governor-appointed members and numerous affiliated volunteers representing a wide range of Coloradans. The Council is funded through private donations, registration fees, and merchandise sales, and receives no funding from the State of Colorado for Council activities and personnel.

We believe that adults and children need at least one hour of moderate physical activity every day to stay healthy and avoid gaining weight. Regular exercise reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other chronic illnesses.

We serve all of Colorado, and our members are located in various regions across the state. See below map to see where current appointees are located.
