Stanford Student Enterprises (SSE) is a young, dynamic organization that reflects the energy and talent of our student employees while also embracing our history through our continued affiliation with the Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU).
In addition to our partnership with ASSU, SSE manages five business enterprises, more than seventy employees, and over $20 million in total assets. We handle short and long-term investments, offer financial services to all student groups, sell Stanford apparel, run a student startup accelerator program, and provide other helpful products and services on campus.

"Dear DCI Fellows,
I have an opportunity that might interest you.
I’m supporting a non-profit that helps students learn by starting and leading businesses. They already help members like Harvard, Stanford, Cornell, Princeton, etc., build novel programs for student-run businesses, but now they’re growing with an event to showcase the top student startups in the world. The organization is called the Student-Run Business Association (SRBA), and the event is SURGE Expo24 - this year at Stanford November 24-27.
They need some help finding advisors that can support their invited competitors (already vetted). The job is to help the startup teams who asked for help prepare for the competition with two 30-minute advisory calls (you can add more or expand the relationship if both of you would like to, too).
They’re in particular need of advisors for Health related businesses. Forwarding this along to see if it’s of interest to you:
"We are hosting a competition designed to showcase top student startups in the US/CA/MEX this November, facilitated by the Student-Run Business Association (SRBA) and held on Stanford University's campus.
We're inviting ~25 inspiring teams, particularly winners of top accelerators or those our member leaders personally invite, to compete in front of partners from top firms like Bessemer, Xfund, a16z, etc., and to share operational insights that can help more students find success. We do require one of the co-founders to be a current student, within 2-years of graduating or under 22 years old.
This is part of something bigger: The Student-Run Business Association (SRBA) and University Startup World Cup are collaborating on this as a pilot for a global 2025 event that highlights the best that students can achieve in startups around the world - aiming to inspire student leaders. Our pilot is called SURGE, a 4-Day Event that combines competition and practical workshops for student-run and student-owned startups (www.srbasssociation.org/events).
To make this a success, we need help finding amazing, qualified advisors for our teams. Candidates should have experience starting a successful business (ideally venture backed) or closely supporting or investing in them at an associate level or beyond. Or, they should be recommended by one of our trusted partners.
We’ll ask advisors to facilitate at least two 30-minute prep calls with invited founders before the semi-finals on November 14th - of course, the advisors and founders can opt in to more calls if they’d like to. Here are some of the relevant links and more information:
- Teams register to compete here
- Teams, advisors and judges RSVP for qualifying events here
- More general event information here, including FAQ

If yes, I can connect you with Owen Raisch, the head of SRBA. He’s helping with a simple, 20-minute onboarding for interested judges and advisors.
