The Democracy LIG was established to provide a forum for the DCI community to discuss challenges to democracy in the U.S. and around the world, and to share ideas on how we can all get involved to preserve and promote democratic values.
The precise form and goals of the group are still in formation. We envision providing a clearinghouse to share resources on the Stanford campus and beyond, a platform for speakers, and an outlet for DCI fellows and alumni to interact with nonprofit groups. We may look for specific projects that a dedicated group of DCIers could join, along the lines of the Racial Justice and Equity Initiatives Group, and other initiatives outside of Stanford.
We should make clear: this would be a non-partisan, cross-ideological group. Partisanship isn't our goal. A healthy democracy requires vibrant competition between two or more parties, and support for a system that can sustain them.
Our broad objective is to tap into the wide pool of experience, knowledge, talent, wisdom, energy, and resources that the DCI community has to offer, to help people figure out how to get involved and try to make a difference.
