David Myung, MD, PhD is a clinician-scientist specializing in corneal and cataract surgery who leads an interdisciplinary research group focused on developing regenerative therapies to treat corneal blindness. His lab focuses on tissue engineering, growth factor delivery, biomaterial-mediated cell therapy, and 3D bioprinting to restore transparency to the wounded or diseased cornea and is funded by Research to Prevent Blindness, the Department of Defense, and the National Eye Institute. Dr. Myung obtained his MD and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Stanford where he was a Bio-X Fellow and an advisee of Professors Curt Frank, Christopher Ta, and Jennifer Cochran. Recently selected for a Harrington Scholar-Innovator Award, he also serves as the Director of the Ophthalmic Innovation Program, the Director of the Stanford Teleophthalmology Automated Testing and Universal Screening (STATUS) Program, and is a member of the Collaborative Community on Ophthalmic Imaging (CCOI) executive committee.
