SCHOOL BOARD RESPONSE TO LETTER OF COMPLAINT
In response to a formal complaint regarding alleged violations of open meeting law, board chair Erika Bailey read the following response from the Stamford School Board at a special meeting of the Stamford School Board on Thursday, June 15, 2023:
On June 5th, the Stamford School Board received a complaint alleging five violations of Open Meeting Law: (1) the Board improperly added a field trip item to its March 9, 2023 meeting and voted to approve the field trip; (2) the Board improperly ended the remote video option for the May 11, 2023 meeting prior to the end of the meeting; (3) the Board improperly went into recess at the May 11, 2023 meeting following a disruption, at which time Board members discussed District business; (4) the Board improperly met after the May 11, 2023 meeting was adjourned; and (5) the Board improperly recorded information in the minutes of the May 11, 2023 meeting.
Regarding the first issue, the Board may make additions to the agenda pursuant to 16 V.S.A. § 312(d)(3)(A). On the second issue, the meeting was in-person and the Board is not required to provide a remote viewing option, and no Board action was taken after the remote option ended. On the third issue, under 16 V.S.A. § 312(h) the Board Chair is charged with maintaining order and may recess a meeting due to a disruption, and no Board action was taken during the recess to restore order. On the fourth issue, the Board members did not discuss District business and no Board action was taken after the meeting was adjourned. On the fifth issue, the meeting minutes comply with 16 V.S.A. § 312(b), which does not require a transcript of all details of a meeting.
Regardless, the Board values transparency and accountability. Therefore, the Board hereby announces its intent to cure any procedural defects related to action taken at the March 9 and May 11 meetings by a vote of ratification at a special meeting of the Stamford School Board on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 6:30 PM.

STAMFORD GRADUATE LEGACY PHOTO PROJECT
Longtime residents may remember the historical grade 8 class photos that once hung in the case in the school gym, and may still lament that the photos were taken down at some point a few years ago. As part of Leo Ethier Week, our student council is working to bring the history of our school back on display, and are compiling the photo collection to begin planning the new display. We have discovered that we are missing photos from certain years, and are looking to our community to help us fill in the gaps! Many of you may have your treasured class photos from your 8th grade graduating year tucked away in a photo album or in a shoe box in your attic. If you have a copy of the class photo from one of the "missing years," we'd love to borrow it for a few minutes to scan it so we can make a new print of it to join our display. You can stop by the school during regular school hours, and we can scan and return your treasured school photo within a few minutes!
