At Stalham Infant & Junior Schools, we are committed to ensuring our Young Carers have equal access to education and support. We aim to recognise, promote and support pupils in accessing education and external services to support their future aspirations and well-being.
What is a Young Carer?
A carer is anyone, including children and adults who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support. (Source NHS England)
The care they give is unpaid. Young carers are children and young people under the age of 18
In School Support
Provide an identified contact within school for Young Carers and their families
Run monthly group sessions
Provide Emotional support and check ins (where required)
Clear identification process within school
External Support
We can help with referrals for external support for Young Carers including:
Norfolk County Council for a Young Carers Needs Assessment
The Benjamin Foundation for BOOM! Young Carers groups
Carers Matter for 1-2-1 support and mentoring. Call the Carers Matter Norfolk Advice Line if you are seeking or would like to discuss support for yourself or for someone else. It is FREE to call and advisors are available 7 days a week. 0800 083 1148
