Mrs. Werner

Dear incoming 6th grader,

I hope you have a great summer and in the midst of all the fun, take some time to read a few books.

Your required reading book is WONDER, by R.J. Palacio. In the book, please find at least 10 words that are new to you or that you have heard but don’t know the definition. Make a dictionary using these words. I am looking for the following: alphabetical order, guide words, part of speech, definition, and a sentence using the word. Make this look like a book with a decorative cover made from construction paper. The pages are loose leaf. Please put at least 4 words per page. Minimum number of words is 10 and maximum number is 15. Make sure you have guide words on the pages.

Summarize WONDER in 2-3 paragraphs. I will be looking for sentence structure, grammar, and spelling. Be sure also to tell me why you did or did not like the book.

You must also read a grade level book of your choice. Write a book review. Make a cover that illustrates something from the book and also includes the title, author, your name and class. Summarize the book and be sure to include why you did or did not enjoy the book. Would you recommend it to your friends? Why or why not? Your review should be 4-5 paragraphs. Again, I will be looking for sentence structure, spelling and grammar.

Enjoy your summer. I look forward to meeting you in September.
