Class overview
This course is rigorous and demands a high level of abstract thinking, working with symbols, and application of knowledge to problem solving. Students will study atomic structure, quantum mechanical theory, stoichiometry, solutions, bonding, shapes of molecules, gases, nuclear chemistry, acids and bases. The course contains a major laboratory component.
About Mrs. Kay
Mrs. Kay has been teaching high school science since 2006 and is passionate about making Chemistry engaging, hands-on, and accessible for every student. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry Education from Coker College and a Master of Education from Southern Wesleyan University. She has also completed more than 50 additional graduate credit hours in educational technology and chemistry, including coursework through Ohio University.
Over the course of her career, Mrs. Kay has taught Physical Science, Environmental Science, and Chemistry, though Chemistry has always been her favorite subject to teach. She has also served as an adjunct instructor at Tri-County Technical College, where she taught college-level Chemistry.
Outside the classroom, Mrs. Kay enjoys spending time with her husband, Alton, and their three sons. Together, they own and operate The Farm at Saluda Ridge, where they raise Golden Retrievers and Goldendoodles. Whether she's teaching in the classroom, creating hands-on science experiences, or caring for puppies on the farm, Mrs. Kay loves sharing her enthusiasm for learning and helping others succeed.
