"My name is Emily, and I am currently studying BSc Events Management at Plymouth University, and I am in my third year, out of four. I had the option to take my third year of university as a ‘year in industry’, better known as a placement year, so I am doing my placement year at Basingstoke College of Technology, as a Schools Liaison and Student Engagement intern.
My role involves a huge variety of responsibilities, including organising events in the college such as Freshers Fair, Learner Parliaments, Careers Advisor lunches, open events, Christmas events and more, as well as going out to schools to promote BCoT, leading the Students Union, and there are sometimes elements of Marketing and recruitment as well. I chose to do a placement year as it is something that is hugely valued by employers in all industries. I wanted to make myself as employable as I can when I leave university, and I felt that this internship would give me the skills I needed to get the best job I can after graduating.
I would highly recommend an internship to anyone who is considering it, as it allows you to develop vital skills that will equip you well for the future. For me, it has also given me the chance to apply all the theory I learnt in my first two years at university to a real job, while developing my employability and giving me valuable work-place experience."
