Autumn No. 12, Friday 30th November 2018
Gospel of the Week
Your liberation is near at hand.
“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
Luke 21:25-28, 34-36
Please remember that if your child attends the Breakfast Club you need to pay in advance. The club costs £3.00 per day (As agreed minimum 3 days per week), you may pay via the cashless payment system (School Money) at: www.eduspot.co.uk if paying every week is too time consuming you may pay further in advance i.e. two or three weeks at a time etc. and the system will update as your children 'use it up'.
Romanian Great Union Day
We will be celebrating Romania's Great Union Day. Although the actual day is on 1st December we will be delaying it a little so that Class 6M may perform an assembly about it. We will celebrate Great Union Day on Friday 7th December. If you have any traditional Romanian clothes you may wear them on 7th December, if not please come along in Red and White.
La multi ani România!
Parents Choir & Governor's Assembly
Anyone who would like to join in with the Parent/Carers Choir please just drop in to the Coffee Morning where you will be warmly welcomed. It is believed that the ability to turn up and practice is just as important as natural singing ability. Don't worry everyone is welcome and remember that the children absolutely love it when they see their parent/carers singing for them! The links to the songs are below if you would like to get some extra practice in!
The actual performance is on Wednesday 19th December 2018 at the Governor's Assembly, which begins at 10.00am.
Free School Meals
We keep hearing rumours that there is a possibility that Free School Meals may be taken away from the Junior Children at the next setting of the council budget. While we have no way of knowing for sure it would seem prudent to mitigate the effect as much as possible by asking every parent/carer to apply for Free School Meals (FSM) via the Newham Website (see link below). While we understand that you may not be eligible and it doesn't seem worth it as you already receive FSM, the last time Newham took away the funding it cost the school nearly £20,000, as we felt it was unfair to the parent/carers to put the burden on them as they had been promised FSM. So please follow this link and see if you are eligible:
Christmas Jumper Day
We will be having our annual Christmas Jumper Day on Tuesday 18th December, on the same day that the children will be having their Christmas meal. Mr Savin has promised that he will not give out any letters about the incorrect school uniform being worn on that day!
If you haven't got a Christmas Jumper just wear Christmas colours instead!
Your children may have told you how we are changing the arrangements for school dinners. We are trying out having all of each phase eating at the same time, this means that it is a much calmer atmosphere as there are not children constantly coming in and out through the doors and the children get to eat with all of their friends. It has been a little hectic but it is getting day by day, and we feel that it will provide a much better experience for all of the children.
We would also like to thank the Mini Mid Days who are doing a wonderful job. They all get to wear one of these prestigious aprons too!
Total for week ending 30th November 2018
If you have any good quality items of school uniform that your children have out grown, we would like you to donate them to the school. We will then sell them on Friday afternoons, at the end of the school day, to raise funds for the school. Please see Miss Khanom if you would like to purchase any items which will be priced at £1.00 each. Please note, we will not be selling items from lost property, these may still be claimed in the normal way.
We have noticed that some children are beginning to get 'creative' with how they interpret the St Winefride's School Uniform. If you follow this link it will take you to our policy:
We would ask that all parent/carers adhere to the policy and send their children to school in the correct uniform, including the requirements for the PE kit and trainers. Mr Savin has begun handing out letters reminding the children of the correct uniform. If your child receives one of these letters please make strenuous efforts to dress your child appropriately as soon as is practicable.
The picture shows the correct jumper, cardigan, trousers and shoes/trainers. Skirts, dresses and shorts may also be worn according to the season.
If your children are wearing boots to school due to the cold weather please give them a pair of school shoes to change into once they arrive.
Children are still wearing fully branded tracksuits as PE kit. This is not following the school's requirements, please send your children in wearing the proper PE kit on their PE days.
We will be publishing regular updates on the class that has received the most Gold Letters. The current leaders are Class 4H with an impressive 114 Gold Letters! Keep up the good work 4H.
Next Week's Assembly
Next week, Friday 7th December, Class 6M will be performing in church at 10.00am.
Coffee Morning Presentation
Reception will be performing their wonderful song from this week's assembly at 9.15am on Friday 7th December.
PULL THE DOOR
The School Office staff have requested that we remind you to pull the front door to open it! Once you have been buzzed through the main gate the office staff will open the front door for you. Just PULL it when you get there and it will open for you!
The children are all practising hard for this year's Nativity/Carol Service, which will be held on Friday 14th November 2018 at 1.30pm. This means that there will not be an assembly in the morning.
Our friends at Newham Libraries are switching on the Christmas lights at Forest Gate Library on Saturday 1st December at 4.00pm. So if singing carols and eating mince pies are your thing, turn up tomorrow at 4 o'clock for lots of fun.
The teachers and support staff are busily organising parties for the children, so keep a look out for the notes about food and drink etc.
Our Maintenance Company, Munday + Cramer, have once again kindly donated a Christmas Tree to the school, however the 'Decoration Gremlins' have been hard at work eating last year's decorations (every year we put away the decorations carefully and every year they seem to disappear!) and we are seriously short of things to hang on the tree! If you have any spare decorations or tinsel please bring it in and leave them at the School Office.
To view our latest assemblies please go to the following link:
The assembly from each Friday will usually be added over the weekend, following the assembly. A huge thank you to Mr McAteer for all his hard work on this and also to his Digital Leaders for recording and editing the videos.
One of the children was accidentally scratched by one of their classmates and this was made worse by the fact that the other child's finger nails were quite long. Please check that your children's nails are kept neat and tidy to avoid any repeats of this unfortunate event.
Commonwealth Youth Choir at Australia House
We are delighted to announce that our children, as part of the Commonwealth Youth Choir will be attending an event at Australia house next Friday, 7th December. We will upload photos and a report next time.
This Week's Prayer
We thank you for this special time of year and what it means to us. We thank you for keeping your promise to send a Saviour, and we thank you for the promise that he will come again. In the name of Jesus we pray.
God Bless You,
