Spring No. 1, Friday 10th January 2020

Gospel of the Week

(The Baptism of the Lord - Year A )

Jesus is Baptised by John

At that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan River. He came to John and wanted John to baptise him. But John tried to stop him. John said, “Why do you come to me to be baptised? I should be baptised by you!”

Jesus answered, “Let it be this way for now. We should do all things that are right.” So John agreed to baptise Jesus.

Jesus was baptised and came up out of the water. Heaven opened, and he saw God’s Spirit coming down on him like a dove. And a voice spoke from heaven. The voice said, “This is my Son and I love him. I am very pleased with him.”

Matthew 3:13-17

Parent/Carer Forum Meeting

The next meeting of the Forum is on Monday 13th January 2020

Parent/Carer Forum Raffle

The Parent/Carer Forum organised a raffle for the children and also for the wider community of St Winefride's and St Stephen's. The children and staff all gratefully received their prizes on the last day of school, but the Community Raffle only had the main prize drawn before the holiday.

As donations of prizes continued to come in we are delighted to announce that a further 12 prizes were awarded and claimed at the Coffee Morning today (Friday 10th January 2020).

We would like to voice our appreciation of the hard work put in by the Parent/Carer Forum and to say thank you to the whole community for coming together to generously provide so many prizes and for then buying so many tickets!

Boots

If you send your child to school wearing boots (any kind, wellies, ankle, knee etc.) due to the inclement weather, please also send in a pair of 'normal' school shoes too. There are many activities that are not practical wearing boots and it must be pointed out that boots are NOT part of the school uniform.

If you would like to apply for one of these vouchers please leave your child's name and class at the Reception Desk.

The Nurture Academy is holding its grand opening on Saturday 14th December, so if you would like to be considered for one of the TEN FREE VOUCHERS, please drop a note in to the Reception Desk, for the attention of Mr Savin.

Swimming

Well the Year 3 pupils (and a few year 5 and 6 children) are now half way through their swimming programme and are having lots of fun while learning a vital life skill! Just one more week to go and we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone, the children, the staff and the parent/carers for being so accommodating and making sure that the lessons have gone as well as they have.

New School Website

We are delighted to let you know that our new website is in the final stages of being created. It will go live in the next few weeks after we have tested it to make sure that it is working correctly. It will include many of the pages and areas of the current site and also new items and is in a much simpler layout and will be easier to navigate.

The Big Garden Birdwatch

Would you like to take part in the biggest wildlife survey in the world? if so click here.

The RSPB organise a survey every year to count the number of birds that you can see in your garden of simply from your window. If you have an hour to spare between the 25th and 267th January you can take part. Follow the link for all of the details.

Winter Reading Challenge

The Winter Reading Challenge is almost over! Will you have you read three books between 1st December and 11th January 2020? You can also complete online book reviews at: www.winterreadingchallenge.org.uk. When you have completed the challenge, you can collect a certificate from the library or print it off from the Winter Reading Challenge website. The school with the highest number of finishers will be awarded a trophy so it would be great if lots of children from our school have taken part in the challenge.

Parent Contribution

There appears to be a little confusion surrounding the 'Parent Contribution' on Schoolmoney. The idea, put forward by the Parent/Carer Forum, was that the school would calculate how much it would expect to ask parent/carers for over the course of the academic year so that families would be able to budget for the year, knowing that no more contributions would be asked for. A sum of £33.00 was agreed between the school and the Forum, which includes non-uniform days, an educational visit and the Summer Fun Day. It does not include any non-uniform days for charity events or things like the Cafod Appeal.

It is also set up so that families may pay in instalments, rather than all at once. A slight problem has arisen with the visits to the pantomimes, where some families have paid and some are yet to do so. This has meant that the school has had to use part of its budget, which is desperately needed to fund the children's education. If you are yet to pay, please make every effort to do so as soon as possible. If you are able to at least make a part payment of £10 to cover the cost of the pantomime, in the interim, that would be wonderful, thank you.

Absence through Illness

If your child is absent from school through illness, please contact the school on their first day of absence. Please also let us know when you expect your child to return to school. If there are any changes please inform us of them
