Gospel of the Week

The Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time - Year B

Jesus Heals a Sick Man

A man who had a harmful skin disease came to Jesus. The man fell to his knees and begged Jesus, “I know that you can heal me if you will.”

Jesus felt sorry for the man. So he touched him and said, “I want to heal you. Be healed!” At once the disease left the man, and he was healed.

Jesus told the man to go at once. But Jesus warned him strongly, “Don’t tell anyone about what I did for you. But go and show yourself to the priest. And offer a gift to God because you have been healed. Offer the gift that Moses commanded. This will show the people that you are healed.” The man left there, but he told everyone he saw that Jesus had healed him. So the news about Jesus spread. That is the reason Jesus could not enter a town if people saw him. He stayed in places where nobody lived. But people came from all the towns to wherever he was.

Mark 1:40-45

Building Update

The main roofing work is complete! The scaffolding is due to be taken down during the Half Term Break and the container, skip and building materials removed from the playground. We will be having a section of gutter renewed and the stage in the playground replaced as part of the process and this might run over into the new half term.

We are hoping to have some of the classrooms redecorated but this may happen during the Easter holiday.

After School Clubs

If you applied for a place in an After School Club for your child for the second half of the Spring Term you will receive a School Ping Message informing you if you have been successful or if your child is on a waiting list.

We will be encouraging more children from Year 4 to take part in the Times Tables Club, as the Year 4 Times Tables check is fast approaching. If your child is in a year other than Year 4 they will be put on a waiting list initially and added to the club as quickly as possible when spaces are determined.

Walking Bears

Meet Charlie, Newham’s ‘Walking Bear’!

We’re taking part in Newham’s upcoming Walking Bears event. Charlie loves to walk to school, and wants to help inspire Newham’s children to walk too! Each week, we will let Charlie go home with a different pupil in our nursery & reception classes, and encourage them to tell us all about their journey to school with him.

We are sure the children will love Charlie and tell us wonderful stories about their travels with him.

Fire Drill

We had our half termly Fire Drill today and the children behaved impeccably and the school was evacuated in under three minutes, our fastest ever time. Well done everyone!

Chinese New Year

We celebrated Chinese New Year at lunch time today when our caterers, Olive Dining, provided the children with a special Year of the Dragon Menu! (Maybe it was the dragon that set off the fire alarm...)

A happy New Year to all who celebrate it.

Free Choice Friday

Just a gentle reminder that children are permitted to bring in ONE treat sized snack from home on Free Choice Friday. Please do not send in 'Family Size' snacks, sharing bags of crisps, tubes of Pringles etc.

Children may of course bring in healthy snacks every day of the week but please remember we are a Nut Free School.

Two Year Old Provision

Thank you to those who responded to our message about the introduction of Two Year Old Provision from September 2024. We will send out more details as they become available.

If you would like to register your interest in using our Two Year Old provision please click the button below and complete the form or drop in to the front office and complete a paper copy of the form

Anti Knife Crime Workshop

We are hosting an Anti Knife Crime Workshop for parents/carers on Friday 8th March in the main hall straight after the end of the school day. The children and staff have already taken part in their workshops and we can say that it will provide a valuable insight in how to help keep your children safe. The session is just for parents so there will be childcare available at school on this day.

Visits to the Library

The children in Years 1 & 2 had the opportunity to visit Manor Park Library this week. They had a great time listening to stories and seeing how many books the library has that they could borrow!

Please see below for the events that are running at the Library over the half term break.

What Parents & Carers Need to Know About Monkey

Online video calling with random strangers 🔞😨 It’s hardly a new internet phenomenon – but the recent demise of Omegle has prompted the creation of several similar platforms bidding to fill the vacuum. One such contender is Monkey – a service that randomly connects its users for video calls, using their mobile numbers and Snapchat account details 🐒

Monkey has surged in popularity since Omegle’s shutdown in November 2023: visits to the site more than doubled within a month and have been climbing steadily ever since. Regrettably, it also seems that Monkey suffers from many of the same pitfalls as its notorious predecessor – our #WakeUpWednesday guide highlights these possible risks to young people in more detail. .

Picture News

Story: Pupils in England will have the choice to take a GCSE exam in British Sign Language (BSL) from 2025. BSL is a form of communication using hand gestures and other movements.

Question: Should we learn sign language at school?

This Week's Prayer

Dear Father,

You sent your Son to bring hope to the hopeless.

When we find ourselves in a hopeless situation, we will put our hope and trust in him.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen.

God Bless You,

Mrs Brosnan

Head Teacher

Easy Fundraising

Good Afternoon,

Did you know that we’re registered with easyfundraising and you could help us to raise funds for the school at no extra cost to yourself?

This is a great opportunity to raise much needed funds for the school!

When you shop online, with over 7,500 of your favourite brands, including John Lewis & Partners, Amazon, eBay, notonthehighstreet, etc., you will raise FREE donations for St Winefride's.

If you’re not already signed up, it only takes a few minutes, then you can begin using the easyfundraising website or app straightaway.

Visit our easyfundraising page to get started:

Student Social Worker

We are delighted to introduce Mr Jude Ezeora, our new Student Social Worker. Jude will be with us on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, until the end of the academic year and we are sure he will be a huge success in his role. Jude will be available to speak to parent/carers at the Coffee morning every Friday and is also happy to meet parent/carers during the week too. Please click the button below to read his introductory letter and we are sure you will join us in giving him a warm St Winefride's welcome.

Sickness

Please remember to call our School Office if your child is unwell and leave a message.

It is also important to remember that if you child is vomiting or has an upset stomach they should remain off school until 48 hours have passed since their last episode of illness.

School Ping Messaging Service

At St Winefride's we use the School Ping messaging service extensively to keep our Parents/Carers informed of events during the week, half term and generally throughout the year.

This newsletter is sent out via School Ping, as well as being posted on the School Website. Other messages sent via School Ping include your children's homework, messages about educational visits, reminders about Assemblies, After School Clubs, Parents Evenings and much more. Please take the time to read the messages sent via School Ping so that you are kept up to date with all the latest information.

 School Bags

Please note that the children should not bring rucksacks/backpacks into school as there is not enough space to store them safely. The children should have a book bag, either the one with the school logo (available from the school office or from My Clothing at £6.50 (+p&p) and will have the school logo on, not the example logo shown on the website) or a plain blue book bag. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

School Uniform

Please see the updated Uniform Policy below. We would strongly recommend purchasing non branded items, such as trousers, skirts, shirts, blouses, socks and shoes from supermarkets or other clothing retailers, many of whom will be having return to school sales. We will be carrying out regular uniform checks over the course of the year.

Assembly Videos

Each week the Class presentation during the Achievement Assembly is recorded and then posted on our Vimeo site. Please click the button below to go to our Vimeo site and see the videos!
