Gospel of the Week

The Second Sunday of Advent - Year C

The Preaching of John

It was the fifteenth year of the rule of Tiberius Caesar. These men were under Caesar: Pontius Pilate was the ruler of Judea. Herod was the ruler of Galilee. Philip, Herod’s brother, was the ruler of Iturea and Trachonitis. And Lysanias was the ruler of Abilene. Annas and Caiaphas were the high priests. At this time, a command from God came to John son of Zechariah. John was living in the desert. He went all over the area around the Jordan River and preached to the people. He preached a baptism of changed hearts and lives for the forgiveness of their sins. As it is written in the book of Isaiah the prophet:

“This is a voice of a man

who calls out in the desert:

‘Prepare the way for the Lord.

Make the road straight for him.

Every valley should be filled in.

Every mountain and hill should be made flat.

Roads with turns should be made straight,

and rough roads should be made smooth.

And all people will know about the salvation of God!’”

Luke 3:1-6

Collecting children at the end of the day

If you need to make alternative arrangements to collect your children at the end of the day, please call the Front Office on 020 8478 0510 and leave a message with the receptionist.

We have had a small number of instances of parent/carers using the class emails to notify teachers, which due to the teacher not being in that day, meant the communication was not picked up.

Thank you for your cooperation.

National Online Safety

What Parents & Cares Need to Know About

Age-Inappropriate Content

“Inappropriate” means different things to different people. What’s acceptable for one age group, for example, may be unsuitable for a slightly younger audience. Online, young people can chance upon inappropriate content in various way – from pop-up ads to TikTok videos. The increasingly young age at which children become active in the digital world heightens the risk of them innocently running into something that they find upsetting or frightening. Trusted adults need to be able to help children be aware of what to do if they’re exposed to age-inappropriate content.

In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as social media, gaming and adverts.

If you would like to see previous guides please go to: https://nationalonlinesafety.com/hub/guide which has all of the guides and much more.

Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards

A very good week in Year 5 with nearly 80 Gold letters awarded between them! Not only that every class has moved up on last week's totals.

Please keep an eye on your MarvellousMe app to see when your children receive their awards!

House Points

Almost double the amount of house points were awarded this week, no doubt helped by points being available for both St Andrew's Day and Romania Day!

Congratulations to St Patrick for their second win in a row.

Please keep an eye on your MarvellousMe app to see when your children receive their awards!

Extracurricular Clubs

The Extracurricular clubs for the Autumn Term are now full, please keep an eye out for next term's clubs which will be advertised shortly.

School Bags

Please use the recommended school bags for your children's belongings. The children do not have to bring much to school as everything is provided. Some children are brining in very large bags which are too cumbersome for the coat racks, please use the regular school bag available at My Clothing. Don't worry our logo, not the sample one shown, will be embroidered on the bag!

School Uniform

As always at the start of the year the children are coming in in their lovely new uniform. Unfortunately, some children take off their jumpers and are not entirely sure where they have left them! To help us return the jumpers to the correct children it is VERY helpful if you put your child's name in every item of school uniform, especially jumpers. If you would like to see the school uniform policy please click the button below.

This Week's Prayer

Heavenly Father,

As we see the many stars in the decorations of this season may we be reminded that Jesus is the "Bright Morning Star" and that when we put our hope and trust in him, our future is secure.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen.

God Bless You,

Mrs Brosnan

Student Social Worker

We are delighted to introduce our new student social worker, Cassandra Boateng, to you, below is an introduction written by her and also a link to some FAQs.

"Hello everyone, my name is Cassandra Boateng. I am a Student Social Worker studying at Anglia Ruskin University. I am currently on a 70 day placement at St Winefride's Catholic Primary School and feel delighted to work with and support the St Winefride’s community in any way that I can. I am here to listen, here to help and here to talk. My aims and targets are to gain knowledge and experience from children, staff and parents as this will help me in my future career as a social worker. As part of the Wellbeing team I will work closely with Mr Brown, Mrs Khanom and Ms Webb to promote the wellbeing of the children at St Winefride’s mainly through 1-to-1 and group support sessions. I have a keen interest in helping children develop friendship and social skills therefore I will be hoping to run a board games club to encourage these.

Furthermore, I am looking forward to working with the Designated Safeguard Leads, Special Needs Coordinator and the Parent Teachers Association to work together and help strengthen the pastoral support in school.

With the impact of the pandemic and how it has disproportionately affected some children the government and children's charities have invested £12.6 million as a response and launched the in-schools social work scheme across England which I am proud to be a part of. For further information please contact the school and ask to speak to a member of the Wellbeing Team or email:

studendwellbeing@st-winefrides.newham.sch.uk"
