Theology most basically defined is the study of God. We will approach this study by exploring primary themes and by asking fundamental questions, while integrating key stories of Hebrew and Christian Scriptures, texts from a variety of sources, a glimpse into major religious traditions, a theological lens to English and World Cultures and Governance materials, and current and historical events. Reflective exercises and interactive discussions will be key components to the class as we seek to relate the questions, themes, and materials to our own lives and our community.

Fundamental Questions

This course invites you to consider three fundamental questions. While no specific answers are assumed, we hope to see growth in awareness and ability to respond to these questions over the course of the year.

  1. Who is God?
  2. Who am I?
  3. What shapes the way I see the world?
