Welcome to Art

Welcome to the Art room!

Students will explore artistic processes and media focusing on the elements and principles of art.  We will create a variety of artwork inspired by different artists and cultures including drawing, painting, 2-D works, and 3-D works.  Each year, students build on the previous year of skill building and creative problem solving.  There will also be opportunities for collaborative work which help build community and partnership.

 Mission Statement

A pre-Kindergarten through 8th-grade Catholic parochial school, St. Stephen is dedicated to the ideals of educating children in an environment that surrounds them with Christian values. The school strives to educate the whole child spiritually, academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. Every effort is made to cultivate within each child a positive self-image and to heighten his/her awareness of the dignity and worth of others.

About me

Hello and welcome!  My name is Alison Pitts and I hold a B.S and M.Ed in Art Education from Towson University.  I love seeing working with students to explore their creativity, learn to think outside the box, and grow confident in their artistic choices.  Art is a wonderful outlet for students, but I also believe learning about different materials, tools, processes, artists, and cultures expands our horizons, develops our curiosity, and prepares us for our diverse world.

Previously, I taught grades K-5 in Harford County Public Schools.  After leaving to raise a family, I have continued teaching evening classes and private lessons for elementary, middle, and high school students in the Bel Air area through local art studios.  When I am not teaching, I love spending time drawing, traveling, and hiking with my family.  I am very excited to be joining the St. Stephen community and am looking forward to meeting and working with all of you this year!

September Update

To kick off the new school year, all students in PreK-8th grade will be creating an artwork through the Original Works fundraising program!  For those who are not familiar with this program, it allows families to purchase items featuring their child's unique artwork.  There are mugs, tea towels, tote bags, prints, and much more to choose from.  More information will be coming soon!  Stay tuned!

Creatively Yours,

Mrs. Pitts
