Humans of SSFS was inspired by Brandon Stanton’s Humans of New York, a New York street photography project that became a globe-spanning glimpse into our collective humanity. For this project, each ninth grade student interviewed a member of the SSFS community (classmates, friends, teachers, counselors, facilities staff, administrators - anyone!) with the goal of producing a first-person vignette as a tiny window into that person's life or identity. Laura and Ayesha, the two English 9 teachers this year, hope that collectively, these vignettes form a portrait of the humans of Sandy Spring Friends School, and by doing so, tell a story about our common humanity that is at once intimate and universal.
Please use the navigation at the top to read vignettes curated by our six different English 9 sections! Also, please note that the vignettes published here represent those interviewees (or their parents) who have granted explicit permission for their stories to be made public beyond the school community.
