I am the 7th and 8th grade S.T.E.A.M. instructor at the Stewartville Middle School. S.T.E.A.M., or science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics, is a hands on class where students work in groups to find solutions to problems. I earned a B.A. in K-6 elementary instruction, a 5-8 science licensure (10’), and a M.A. in Education (11’). Past professional development opportunities includes 2013-2014 N.S.T.A. New Science Teacher Fellowship and the 2016 Honeywell Educators at Space Academy where I worked with teachers from around the world.
A positive attitude and a willingness to learn new concepts is very important in addition to persistence. Mistakes are considered a learning opportunity for growth and success.

Challenges include rocketry, space capsules with thermal protection systems, parachutes, EVS LEGO Robotics, and electricity. Data is collected throughout the school year where is it graphed and analyzed to find correlations.
8th grade students will work with such concepts such as pnuematics, gear ratios, water filtration methods, advanced LEGO programming, and alternative energy. Both grade levels are also introduced to 3d-printing in finding solutions to challenges throughout the school year.
