PE at Home - Lesson #10 - Monday 6/1

Phys Ed Athon - Decathlon

In the spirit of the Olympics, I will be challenging you with events starting with the Marathon and leading all the up to the Decathlon!

Our last stage of the Phys Ed Athon! We are taking on the Decathlon this week! Hopefully you have been following along and know that this week we need to compete in TEN (10) events.

The Decathlon is the ultimate Summer Olympic competition. The events are as follows...

(first day) 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400-meter run;

(second day) 110-metre hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1,500-metre run.

You'll notice that the Decathlon is very similar to the Heptathlon from last week. You are very right! the Decathlon have three (3) additional events to the seven from last week. They are the Pole Vault, Discus Throw and 1,500 meter run

Scores and times are measured against all of the competitors for each of the events and then compiled to determine a winner.

Please watch the videos and make the events work for you. My PE at Home video is the same one from last week. Im asking you to watch it again as well as the pole vault and discus videos to help you create your own events. The 1500 meter run is almost twice (2x) as far as the 800 meter run. Use different stuff around the house for your equipment. We used chairs, broom sticks, bocce balls and cones to make our events work. Use your imagination when making yours!

Watch the Decathlete Story! Listen and Write Down some of your favorite quotes from the athletes who are in the story. Let these quotes drive you through our times. I can't wait to see you next fall!

We will be Stronger!

PE at Home - Lesson #8 - Monday 5/18

Phys Ed Athon - TRIATHLON

In the spirit of the Olympics, I will be challenging you with events starting with the Marathon and leading all the up to the Decathlon!

This weeks lesson has us taking on the Triathlon! Take a guess... How many skills happen during the Triathlon? That's right! 3!!!

The Triathlon is Summer Olympic competition. It is a grueling 1 mile ocean swim, 25 mile bike ride usually through a mountainous region and finishes with a 6 mile run. Competitors are all racing at the same time usually in large packs. It can be very dangerous!

Our Triathlon isn't going to be dangerous at all. I want you to challenge yourself by doing all of the work consecutively without stopping. That going to be the most difficult part.

Watch my Triathlon Video to get a sense of what we are doing and then take on your Triathlon!

Warm Up - 3x10s - JJ's, Solar Squats, push ups...

6 minute run (not 6 miles)

9 minute bike (or some other "wheeled activity")

1 minute swim (or a long as you want in the bathtub!)

Remember, while competing in the Triathlon, you need to

FOCUS

CONTROL YOUR BREATHING

CALM YOUR MIND

Cool Down - 1 min walk followed by stretching for 2 mins

Please Take a Minute to Say Thanks to

Miss Folkomer!!!

Miss Folkomer has finished her time as a Student Teacher with me at Scenic Hills.

This weeks lesson has us taking on the Biathlon! Take a guess... How many skills happen during the Biathlon? That's right! 2!!!

The Biathlon is a Winter Olympic competition that has athletes Cross Country Skiing as fast as they can while stopping at times for Target Shooting!!! Sounds crazy, but it's true and quite the challenge! Now we can't go cross country skiing but we can Run and we can find a variety of things that can be our target for Target Shooting.

Watch the Biathlon Video to get a sense of what it is and then watch my lesson video for how I want you to take on your Biathlon! When your done here's your workout:
