Biography: I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from WCU and a Masters Equivalency from the Department of Education. Prior to Springfield I taught in the Chester Upland School District for four years. This is my 16th year at ETR. I have been married for twenty years and have a daughter who is a sophomore in college, a daughter who is a senior in high school and a son who is a freshman in high school. In my free time I enjoy spending time with family, watching my kids play sports, walking my dog, reading and doing yoga.
Wellness 1 will be held every other day during the 1st trimester. The 1st trimester will consist of physical activity including the Fitnessgram tests.
Wellness 2 will be held every other day during the 2nd trimester. Wellness 2 will be a combination of physical activity in the gym or outside and health instruction in a classroom setting.
Wellness 3 will be held every other day during the 3rd trimester. Wellness 3 will consist of physical activity including the fitnessgram tests.
The Objectives of Wellness class are:
-to improve physical fitness
-to increase enjoyment of physical activity
-to enhance development of motor skills
-to develop peer relationships through cooperation, team work and sportsmanship
-to promote critical thinking and problem solving skills
-to gain knowledge of health concepts
-to learn how to make healthy choices
A PE uniform must be worn along with sneakers during physical activity.
HEALTH CURRICULUM (taught during Wellness 2) In 6th grade the Unit of study is Personal Health. The students will learn about the body systems and ways to keep each system healthy. We discuss personal hygiene in detail as well, along will HIV/AIDS. In 7th grade, human growth and development is studied. This unit includes body changes during puberty, the reproductive systems, ways to keep these systems healthy, abstinence and STD's including HIV/AIDS. In 8th grade the topics include drugs, alcohol, stress management, abstinence and STDS including HIV/AIDS. The focus across each grade level is decision making. How do we use the knowledge learned to make good, healthy choices in real life?
