Assignment Lateness Policy: Homework and other projects and assignments completed outside of class must be handed in on time when a due date is specified. An additional 5% for major projects and 10% for homework and smaller projects is deducted the total score each day the assignment is late.
Digital Portfolio and Semester Final: 30%
A digital gathering of projects, self-assessments, critiques from other students, and examples is required at the end of each semester. There is also a very short quiz.
In-Class Project Due Dates: If an in-class project is not completed by the last specified work day for the project, due to absence, there is a window of 1 day per absence to complete the unfinished piece. The piece must be completed outside of class time unless all current in-class work is done. 1. Has the student hit all the Criteria or "Checklist Items" for the project that was given by the instructor (the "Shopping List")? Some examples:
Layout
Color Use
Subject Matter
Materials
Technique
2. What "STAGE" is the artist at technically?
Unsatisfactory: 59-0 "F" Grades (Not working, refusing work, or not making up work)
Improvement Needed: 60-69 "D" Grades (Not listening, trouble following directions, rarely working)
Emerging: 70-79 "C" Grades (Trying, but just getting the hang of it)
Practiced: 80-89 "B" Grades (Got the right ideas, but not completely...)
Proficient: 90-100 "A" Grades (You're doing it right and it shows!)
3. Art is not judged on being "Good or Bad". (Art teachers may say "Oh, that looks GOOD" or "OH, I LIKE THAT," meaning: they see that you've HIT one of the shopping list items correctly and HIT one of the two highest stages: "Practiced" or "Proficient")
4. Was there an attempt at the project? None? Some effort or Big Effort?
5. STUDENT / Teacher CRITIQUING: to give POSITIVE or CONSTRUCTIVE opinions to HELP the student create better pieces of art.
Main Goal: Assessment of the level of the art student: How much effort was placed by the student? What was learned in the process- Anything? Did they GROW as an artist? The teacher gives information to the student to: LEARN, Grow, and ultimately "future student-driven investigation".
