Visit to the Cape Town Holocaust and Genocide Centre
As part of the History curriculum, the Grade 11 History students visited the Cape Town Holocaust and Genocide Centre to learn about the Pseudo-Scientific Ideas of Race: Theories and Practice. It was a mind-blowing experience. The exhibition was incredibly well put together and told the story of the Holocaust as well as local Apartheid history. The lessons and exhibition gave us an overview of the events which should never be forgotten. The stories were told with visuals and items that made the horrors of the past real.

MADDDD Evening
Springfield's MADDDD (Music, Art, Dance, Drama, Debating, Digital) portfolio hosted a "Neverland" themed MADDDD evening for Springfield Senior School students on Friday, 23rd April.
It was a wonderful opportunity to experience some theatre magic and appreciate the talent of our Springfield Community after a tough year where COVID restrictions have prevented this type of engagement. The girls - and some staff members - showcased exceptional talent in a variety show.
Thank you to the Tech Crew girls, who ran the sound, lighting and video flawlessly and to the girls and staff who maintained the COVID protocols throughout. Various food items were on sale, from stalls run by the MADDDD, Amasiko, Community engagement, Eco, Sports and Service portfolios.
The evening was a phenomenal success and greatly enjoyed by the audience and performers. Congratulations and thanks to all the girls, staff and portfolios who contributed.
Photography Club
The Photography Club has been showing their steel in the last two sets of themes they have explored. The first set was looking at the use of texture, and the use of macro photography. The photographs included for these themes are by Zaynab Ebrahim Ahmed, Sienna Lumb and Kira Olivier, all in grade 8. The second set was looking at patterns and shapes, and delving a bit in the world of reportage and photo journalism. Photographs included are by Tanyaradzwa Madziwa, grade 8, and Caitlin Williams, grade 11.
We would also like to congratulate Caitlin Williams for being appointed as Head of Photography!

With inter-school sports matches now back in play, we have received draft Soccer and Hockey fixtures but have not as yet received anything from the various bodies organising the leagues for Squash, Netball and Cross Country. Pupils participating in the various sporting codes will be emailed the relevant information and parents will also receive a list of fixtures once these have been finalised. We are organising as many friendly matches as possible and all of our players are excited to get back to playing matches. Please note that we are following strict Covid19 protocols and no spectators are permitted at any practices or matches. We are investigating live streaming as a practical option for selected league matches and we are in the process of obtaining information regarding the costs of this streaming.
