Springfield Local Schools Early Childhood Center

Committed to Developing The Whole Child

Program Details

Springfield Local Schools offers classes (limited space availability) for income eligible Preschool Children, ages three - five years of age, residing in the Springfield Local School District. Developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities, which are guided by the Ohio Early Learning Content Standards and adapted to meet each child’s individual needs. Daily activities encourage students to develop their fine motor, gross motor, communication, self help, social/emotional, and cognitive skills in structured and nurturing school environment. Family involvement encouraged and celebrated!

The Springfield Local Schools' Early Childhood Center has been open since August and students have had many fun-filled days of learning and play. The children have learned to follow a daily school routine, eat breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria, and follow their teacher’s directions. The children also have had the opportunity to play outside on the exciting playground in the back of Dorr Elementary School, where the Early Childhood Center is located.

The Early Childhood Center students and teachers have also begun to explore and learn with their new comprehensive preschool curriculum, “DIG: Develop, Inspire, Grow.” This curriculum, created by Frog Street Press in partnership with Dr. Jean Feldman, creates play based learning experiences for children that target all areas of development. Learning centers create opportunities for exploration across all domains of development and academic areas. Individualized small and large group learning experiences in literacy and math also help preschool students to prepare for kindergarten. The “DIG” curriculum also utilizes “The Letter People” and music by Dr. Jean, to create meaningful language and literacy experiences for our youngest learners in the Springfield Local School district.

The Springfield Local Schools Early Childhood Center is off to an amazing start and all staff members are looking forward to an exciting school year with the wonderful families and students in our program.
