I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year! Starting a new school year can be exciting & fun but there are also many other emotions you and your child may be feeling as we navigate through the COVID pandemic- apprehension, nervousness and fear. Sending your child to school this year brings more emotions than ever. My goal is to make sure that your child feels safe, learns to the best of his/her potential and has fun while doing it! The following information should give you an idea of what to expect this year and answer questions/concerns that you may have.

We will be using Google Classroom as our online learning platform this year. This is where assignments will be posted. Please sign into our classroom by using the following user name: the last 2 digits of the year that they will be graduating (1st graders are 28, second graders are 27), first initial and last name@spraguek12.org. This is also your child's Sayles School email address. The class code is - xrzk62h and the password is DogBone21.

Whether you are joining us through zoom or in person, your first assignment will be to bring with you a picture, drawing or souvenir of something fun you did over the summer! Be ready to share with the class! If you are joining us from home, we will begin our zoom session at 9:00.

Direct instruction and class meetings will be on Zoom. These sessions will typically be for the first part of a class period followed by a time for students to complete work on their own after. As we move through our first week or two of school, I'll get a better idea of the times that these will occur and will adjust our schedule as needed. Direct instruction Zoom sessions will also be recorded and you'll be able to watch or re-watch them as needed. That being said, the expectation is that students will log in and participate in meetings as they happen as much as possible. Our first meeting will be on Monday, August 31st at 9:00. Wednesday is a day that all students will work from home. It will also be a planning day for teachers in addition to a day to follow up with students about any challenges/difficulties they may be having with assignments, distance learning etc.

We will have specials for 2 weeks at a time. We will begin the first 2 weeks of school with art and then PE will follow. A schedule will be posted on Google Classroom.

Breakfast and lunch menus can be found on the school website, under nutrition. There are 2 breakfast and 3 lunch choices. If your child will be purchasing breakfast, I will need to put the order in the day before. Please email me or make sure your child knows if he/she will be purchasing breakfast, and what their choice is, for the following day. In addition we will have a snack break in the afternoon. Please send a snack in with your child daily.
