If you have a Bachelor's Degree in one of the content areas listed below, you would be eligible to apply for a provisional teaching license with the corresponding fine arts endorsement (if hired). This would allow you to teach grades K-12. A provisional license allows you to teach for up to three years while completing any remaining requirements for a full teaching license. Once hired, the licensure coordinator will assist you in submitting documentation to VDOE for this license.
If you do not have a Bachelor's Degree in a Fine Arts content area listed below, but do have a Bachelor's Degree in another subject, you will need to pass a Praxis assessment in order to obtain a provisional teaching license with the corresponding endorsement.
To teach Music - instrumental, you would need to pass the Praxis 5113 (Music: Content Knowledge).
To teach Music - vocal/choral, you would need to pass the Praxis 5113 (Music: Content Knowledge).
To teach Art, you would need to pass the Praxis 5114 (Art: Content Knowledge).
*Theatre does not have a Praxis assessment.
