20 days activity of Eropean youth team of 10 poeple will culminate in a low-budget, local festival “Hvozdění” happening during a weekend of 22nd and 23rd August in our village farm. This festival is not only about performative art, it carries the philosophy of Zero waste and DIY, focuses on families with children and it is free of alcohol and drugs.

The volunteers have to be at least 18 years old, open-minded, empathetic and curious about people passing via our NGO. Keen on ecology, nature, organic and self-sufficient way of farming. Be interested in meeting people from different countries and the Czech countryside. The knowledge of basic English or Czech is required.

Any craft or artistic skills are very welcomed.

The main activity is to prepare the facilities for the festival: build up outdoor "summer" kitchen, repair the pavement, create water-saving sanitary facilities. Helping to run the festival: Plan the program of the festival Hvozdění , build an organizational and operational team. Organize a beneficial market (charity bazaar), prepare program for children, workshops, decorate the venue of the festival with natural materials. Volunteers will learn to plan their work, make a budget, practice cooperation and teamwork. Participants can also prepare their performance for the “open stage” at the festival Hvozdění.

The background preparation is also important for the festival. Together we will build a multi-functional space (woodwork, clay-plastering, building) - for various activities during the festival and part will be designed to prepare food for performers. Food is what connects people at the same table, we will cook together and share the recipes. In this part of the project participants will experience the work with natural building materials - wood, clay, straw, stone...

The volunteers will visit the local glass workshop and have a practical stained glass production seminar there. Together (and under the guidance of a tutor) they will create a stained glass window for the multi-functional space / outdoor kitchen. We will also improve the sanitary facilities by building an outdoor shower and new composting toilets.

Two days will be dedicated to a complemetary activity "Introduction to permaculture" course, which will help the participants understand the main principles important for the farm and sustainable lifestyle.

The staff of Spolek Hvozd will provide every volunteer with full support in order to ensure that the volunteer can covercome any kind of difficulties. Participants with fewer opportunities (light health obstacles, economical obstacles, cultural obstacles) are welcomed too.

  • shared kitchen, outdoor composting toilet, water capacity limited
  • shower/bathroom in the house
  • composting toilet outside

  • In the village there is no shops. The only food is from the garden, and food we buy is from local farmers market once a week in the city 15 km away. There are also local farmers producing cheese and other diary products.

This ruin we turn to the multifunctional space!
