Where $1 of Tax Revenue Goes

Not all of the City's Department's or expenditures are funded by property taxes. The following chart shows the areas that receive at least some of their funding from property taxes and the amount that $1 of tax revenue will support. The general areas that receive taxes and the departments they support are as follows:

  1. Public Safety
    • Expenditures are related to: Police, Fire, Communication Center, Building Inspections, Animal Control
  2. Culture and Recreation
    • Expenditures are related to: Library, Parks, Aquatic Center, Campground, Cemetery
  3. General Government
    • Expenditures are related to: Mayor and Council, City Clerk, Elections, Legal Services, City Hall and Buildings, Tort Liability
  4. Debt Service
    • Expenditures are related to: Principal and Interest on outstanding debt
  5. Employee Benefits
    • Expenditures are related to: City portion of Health Insurance, City portion of Police/Fire pension payments, Unemployment insurance, Worker's Compensation Insurance (non-Business Type Activities departments)
  6. Tort Liability
    • Expenditures are related to: Property and Liability Insurance premiums for General Fund Departments. Business Type Activity Departments pay their share of premiums from revenues.
