Mentorship program overview meeting
- Mentors attend a virtual meeting with Speer staff to go over the expectations for the mentorship program.
Introductions
- Mentors and mentees have an introductory/getting to know you meeting.
YouScience Results
- Students will share the results of their career aptitude and interests assessment with their mentors.
Career Fair
- All mentors are invited to participate in a virtual career fair. No Mentor meetings this day.
Teamwork and Mini Project
- Students will share learning about the importance of teamwork in a professional setting. Mentors will share examples of what works well when working with a team and what challenges they have had in a team setting, as well as ways to overcome these challenges.
Salary and Job Outlook Research
- Students will have begun research on the salary and job outlook of their career of choice. They will share their research with mentors. Mentors will share any relevant information/data with students.
Career and Employment Possibilities
- Students will have begun research on the career and employment opportunities in career of choice. They will have also just begun to research the dispositions a successful person in their career of choice should possess. They will share their research with mentors. Mentors will share any relevant information/data with students.
Education and Dispositions Research
- Students will have begun research on the what degrees, certificates, and other educational requirements are necessary of their career of choice. They will share their research with mentors. Mentors will share any relevant information/data with students.
Job duties and opportunities for advancement research
- Students will have begun research on the day to day job duties as well as the opportunities for advancement in their career of choice. They will have also just begun to research the dispositions a successful person in their career of choice should possess. They will share their research with mentors. Mentors will share any relevant information/data with students.
Resume building
- Students will have learned the components of a strong resume in their career readiness class. They will share a draft of their resume with mentors for feedback. Mentors may share other examples of resumes from their field, or their own resume with mentees to help them finalize their resumes.
Cover letter Writing and Personal branding
- Students will share a draft of a cover letter they have written. Mentors will give feedback and share other examples, if relevant. Students will also share their personal brand statements with mentors for feedback.
Interviewing
- Students will engage in a mock interview with mentors, implementing the interview strategies they have learned in class.
Project check in
- Students will update mentors on their project research. Mentors will give feedback.
Final Presentations and Celebration
- Students will present their career research to mentors and Speer Community.
