Derek Dyer

Derek Dyer is a senior at Sparta High School, where he plays varsity football as a running back and linebacker. Outside of school, he spent this past summer building fences and decks with his dad and a friend, and when winter rolls around, he's usually snowboarding, a hobby he puts a lot of time and effort into.

Derek joined Web Multimedia because he wanted to be more involved in school life and cover what's happening around him. He's drawn to journalism because he enjoys hearing other people's perspectives and how they think about different topics. This year, he's hoping to get better at capturing students' honest opinions and points of view in his stories.

As a reporter, Derek is most interested in covering sports and school happenings. He believes the key to telling someone else's story well is getting input from multiple people so every side is represented and that honesty is what makes a story good in the first place.

Fun fact: If Derek could interview anyone in the world, it would be Shane Stoffer, whose story he finds uniquely inspiring.
