After High School, James played two seasons of collegiate basketball at Northwood University (2001-2003). James redshirted his freshman year and them played the following season. After these two years, James transferred to Cornerstone University where he studied education and played three seasons in which the teams won the WHAC conference titles and advanced to the Elite 8Â and final fours of the NAIA national tournament in Branson, Missouri. James was selected captain of his senior season and received the Golden Eagle Award which represents the individual who best models the character traits of the CU basketball. After Cornerstone, James went on to a few free agent camps with the aspiration of playing professional basketball overseas. James then played professionally in Australia.
