Sparta R-III Superintendent
I firmly believe that public education provides the best opportunity for ALL students to be successful. I am proud to be part of the Sparta R-III school system.
Mr. Rocky Valentine, Sparta superintendent, is a southwest Missouri native. While attending the Ava R-1 School District during his K-12 career, Mr. Valentine was very active in athletics and various school-related activities. Mr. Valentine attended MidAmerica Nazarene University where he studied history. At MNU he was active in journalism and competed in track and field as an Academic All-American javelin thrower. After completing his undergraduate degree, he completed Missouri State University's post-baccalaureate teacher certification program in the area of social sciences.
Mr. Valentine began his career at Sparta Middle School teaching social studies and coaching girls' basketball and baseball. While in the classroom, Mr. Valentine was active on many district committees which allowed him to develop his interest in building leadership. This led him to pursue a master's in school leadership through Lindenwood University and later a specialist degree in school administration, also from Lindenwood. In 2013 Mr. Valentine moved into the building principal role at Sparta Middle School where he served until accepting the superintendency in 2017.
After meeting in 2004, Mr. Valentine and his wife Breanna married in 2009. They have two daughters, Lyla Sue (6) and Lily Jane (2). As a family, they enjoy being active outside, volunteering with the American Heart Association and visiting their families' farms.
