Overview: The 7th grade social studies course is an intensive study of world geography and cultures. Due to the amount of material to be covered, this course could be best described as a “big picture” exploration of the topics.
Expectations: As a parent and teacher I have high expectations for all children and believe that all students can succeed when certain conditions are met. Therefore, all students must adhere to the class rules, have all materials for class each day, and behave in a respectful manner while at school. In the event a class rule is broken, a student comes to class without his/her materials, or behaves in a disrespectful manner the discipline code described in the student agenda will be enforced.
Course Outline:
Unit 1: Introduction to Contemporary World
Unit 2: Government and People
Unit 3: Global Economics
Unit 4: The American Continents
Unit 5: Abrahamic Religions
Unit 6: Europe and Russia
Unit 7: Central Asia and the Middle East
Unit 8: Africa

Absences/Missed Assignments: It is imperative that your child attend school on a daily basis as we will be covering large amounts of information each day. In the event your child must be absent from school it shall be the responsibility of the student to make up all missed assignments and acquire any notes or handouts missed. The student will have one week from the date of his/her return to complete any missed assignments.
Grading Policy: The average for this course will be comprised of grades from tests, projects, quizzes, class work, and homework. Grades for the class will be compiled using a total points system.
Materials: Each student will need to bring his/her textbook, pen/pencil, colored pencils, loose-leaf paper, and three-ring binder to class every day.
