HISTORY

The name “Poblacion” is derived from the spanish word publico, which means a populated place. According to people of the Barrio, in 1863, the Civil Government sent an engineer to the municipality of Muntinlupa and they later on found out that Muntinlupa and Alabang both qualified for what the Barrio was looking for — the center of the municipality. It was on January 25, 1863 when the Engineer recommended that the Municipal Hall of Muntinlupa be built for our city. Poblacion is a barangay which highly urbanized the City of Muntinlupa in the province which is part of the Luzon group of islands. Poblacion represents the center of the Highly Urbanized City of Muntinlupa.

Japanese Cemetery

Not only does Muntinlupa house the smallest lake in our country, but we also have a peaceful haven located at the end part of the local cemetery in Bilibid. Here you can find a shrine solely spotlighting Japanese soldiers who died in Muntinlupa and the neighboring towns. This is simultaneously a cemetery because the Japanese soldiers who were executed there were also buried there.

Sunken Garden

The Muntinlupa Sunken Garden is a large urban park that is accessible to the public. It is a government-protected zone, and is an open grassy space that is located just south of Jamboree Lake. Some folks also call it the New Bilibid Prison Sunken Garden, since it is just lower than the surrounding elevation in the New Bilibid Prison.
