In 2019, the 34,000 square foot, Automotive Technology Training Program at South Seattle College was going to be relocated into 15,000 square feet across 2 buildings temporary location for approximately two years while their 50-year-old building was undergoing its first major renovation ever.
The Automotive Building must be completely empty by January 1, 2020 so the general contractor could start mobilization of the site
The temporary locations must be properly prepared for the start of winter quarter January 7, 2020
According to the project architect (now partner at firm), this was the first time in her 20-YEAR career that a capital project relocation completed ahead of schedule.
It is high-risk, multi-phase, complex, rare relocation that no-one wanted to deal with leaving it unstarted but approved for funding, since 2009.
In addition to the standard building and fire safety; WISHA and OSHA safety, hazourdous materials handling, storing, and disposing; heavy-duty equipment needed to be inspected, removed, and reinstalled or disposed of; there were state college regulations for asset handling.
This program feeds 15-20% of the local auto dealerships, as well as, private, and commercial auto-mechanic businesses.
