Off to a flying start! We are playing the Dood! This is a more challenging instrument than the recorder, and although there are some squeaks from time to time as they explore the best way of making sound, the students are doing a great job! Please encourage them to practice every school day if they would like to, as this will strenghten muscles and improve their muscle memory.

The Dood
News!
We have the Doods! The students are off to a great start. If they have squeaky notes as they
In class we have been mainly playing the recorder. Although the Doods have still not arrived yet (as of October 11th), the skills the students are acquiring by playing the recorder will almost all be transferable to the Dood, with the exception of how to make a sound. These skills include breath control, beat and rhythm, music literacy, and articulation.

Although the Dood instruments were ordered in April, they will not arrive until October due to delays in shipping. Please go to the Grade 3 page to access the recorder resources until we receive the instruments.
The Dood is an educational version of the Clarinet. To succeed on this instruments, it is helpful if students practice 10-15 minutes every school day and essential that they treat the instrument with care! The reed in particular is fragile and if bent will make it impossible to play well.
Students... Please make use of the resources above to help you when learning this instrument. If you need help, please don't hesitate to ask or come in for extra help. I am available every day at all recess times.
