7B Science

Parents can contact me by phone at 860-628-3275 (JFK) and leave a message. I will return any calls after 3 pm ( leave me best time and phone number where you can be reached).

Parents and students can contact me any time at ppepin@southingtonschools.org.

I am available after school Monday, Thursday and Friday until 3:15. If transportation is an issue, other arrangements can be made (during lunch, before school, extended time until parent can pick up). If students are absent from class, it is their responsibility to see me if interactive notebooks are not up to date. These are used during assessments so it is vital that students have ALL the information from class discussions.

HOMEWORK

There is less homework in science than in many academic classes; our work is collaborative in nature and needs to largely be completed IN CLASS. Absences may result in alternate assignments that may not provide the full EXPERIENCE that is desired as we make sense of science ideas. Homework may include assignments to complete the work that was started in class, and amount may vary from student to student. I do not expect students to spend more than 20 minutes on any science HW. If your child is spending more than that amount of time please contact me!! (A note or email would be appreciated!)

Our investigations this year (September 2020-June 2021) will include:

Trimester 1

  • Intro Science Strategies, Skills, Practices

  • Disruptions in Ecosystems (NGSS-based curriculum)

Trimester 2** Sequence may be altered this year depending upon District Attendance Decisions

  • Understanding Growth in Living Things - Matter, Chemistry

Trimester 3

  • Metabolic Reactions (Human Body Systems)

  • Heredity
