General Information:
Course information is easily accessible through Canvas including reminders of upcoming assignments and assessments. All students are trained extensively on where important information is located in Canvas.
Homework is considered as full credit when:
It is completed with true effort.
It is turned in on time.
Please note that per district policy, homework is not averaged into final grades. Nonetheless, it is highly encouraged that students complete the work as it reinforces skills and helps them to be more successful. The checkmark or lack thereof recorded into Powerschool merely indicates whether the assignment was completed or not.
Re-teach policy: Students will be allowed the opportunity to retake a failed assessment if one of the following two situations has occurred: all homework leading up to the assessment was turned in and the student did his/her part to prepare for the assessment to the best of his/her ability (can produce notes, demonstrated that he/she studied, asked questions etc). If a student does not participate in a reteach/retaking of the assessment, the original grade will stand unless the assessment scored below a 40. In that case a score of 40 will be recorded and notation will be made in Power School comments. Re-teaching and re-assessing will occur at a mutually agreed upon time, ideally during K Block, between student and teacher allowing the student to earn a grade of 70. Exceptions to this are if an assessment occurs too close to the end of a trimester in which case there may not be enough time for re-teaching or a changing of grades.
Weekly e-blasts will be sent through Parent Square to update parents to the coming week’s activities.
Should you have difficulty accessing PowerSchool, Canvas, or need to change an email address, please contact the counseling office secretary at mjwalsh@southingtonschools.org
Upon entering classes this year, students will be asked to place their cell phones in a designated safe area until the end of class.
Students must bring their school provided device and charger to school everyday. The device must be fully charged for the beginning of the school day.
During the school year, we are available to meet parents during our team time, period 1 on Tuesday or Fridays between 8:15 - 8:55 am. Please email joneill@southingtonschools.org if a meeting is necessary. Meetings can take place virtually or in person.
Nooks and Kindles are acceptable for independent reading; however, please be sure they are fully charged overnight so students are prepared.
READING ON CELL PHONES IS NOT PERMITTED.
Students are encouraged to bring in water bottles from home. They are able to drink water throughout the day. Beverages other than water are not allowed in class per school policy.
Open House: Wednesdy, Sept 13.
Parent - Teacher Conferences: Monday, Nov. 20.
