About

Southfields radio began in 2021 after recieveing funding from BGL group.

Professional equipment was purchased, software sourced and installed and then the lengthy testing phase began.

Over time, more music was added, silly jingles created, licenses purchased and a select few children were chosen to help test and present their own shows.

Whilst Southfields Radio has the potential for all students to access, realistically it will be the older children who present their own shows. Over time, those students who want to access it and present at lumchtimes will hopefully be able to do so.

Southfields Radio officially lauched in November 2021 with a team of year 6s expertly presenting their own shows during lunchtimes.

The benefits of Southfields Radio:

  • Develops confidence, self-esteem and teamwork.

  • Promotes inclusivity - all children and all ages can take part.

  • Both encourages and improves children's speaking, oracy, listening and writing skills.

  • Is an excellent way to model speech and language.

  • Gives children the opportunity to think on their feet, work to deadlines and work on their timing skills.

  • Builds and improves the "home-school link" and encourages parental engagement.

  • Gives pupils the opportunity to live stream in a safe and controlled way.

  • Exposes children to different music from different genres and eras.

  • Allows pupils to share their work with others - not just their class and not just their school - and therefore promotes a love of learning.

  • Gives pupils real-world skills and could even encourage potential future careers.

  • Gets children interested in current affairs both locally and nationally.

  • Improves children's technical knowledge of touch screen computers, audio systems and hardware and general media skills.

  • Is a fun, exciting and engaging experience for all pupils.
