The decision to close schools within our district due to the weather is based on the superintendent’s contacts with the PA Department of Transportation (PENNDOT) and the bus contractors in our attendance areas.
Full day closures
If PENNDOT or the majority of our attendance areas express concern with road conditions, all schools will be closed for the full school day. Inclement weather conditions in individual attendance areas will be deliberated on an individual basis. School closing notices will be initiated through our Parent Square and local television and radio stations by 6AM when possible.
Delayed start times
On days in which it is determined that roadways are only temporarily impassable, school starting times will be delayed by two hours. School will begin at 10AM. Notification will again be given through Parent Square and local television and radio stations by 6AM when possible. A decision to then discontinue school for the entire day in the case of road conditions not improving will be made by 8AM when possible.
Early dismissals
District administrators will be notified of early dismissal times. They will then notify staff members, bus contractors, and students. Parents will be notified by local television and radio stations and Parent Square.
Note: All other district emergencies that necessitate school closings will be handled on a district-wide or individual school basis. Parent Square and local television and radio stations will be used for notification purposes.
