The CARE Team is the LES version of the Student Assistance Program (SAP) which is mandated by the state, and it is a systematic process to identify and refer students who are experiencing barriers to learning. When a problem is beyond the scope of the school, the CARE team assists parents and students with information so they may access services in the community. It is an intervention program – not a treatment program.
Any concerned student or adult can refer a student to the CARE Team. A student can also refer himself or herself.
If someone has a concern about a student who uses drugs or alcohol, threatens to run away, has eating problems, seems seriously worried, threatens to hurt self or others, is always angry or crying, cannot sleep, etc., the person should refer the student to the CARE Team.
CARE Team referrals are available in the office and can be handed to one of the CARE Team members (Mrs. Ostrom Graham, Mrs. Neal, Mrs. Rausher, Mrs. Casselberry), or dropped into one of the CARE Team mailboxes. The person who makes the referral will not be identified. Parents can also contact the school counselor to make a referral.
Confidentially, the referral will be discussed by the CARE Team and a determination will be made on how to proceed. Parents will be involved in the process early, and behavioral check sheets may be distributed to staff members to determine how the student is behaving in environments around the school. Due to confidentiality, the person making the referral will receive no follow-up information.
